Description**"A PLACE FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE DOGS"** – Muktuk Kennels is located on the shores of the Takhini River, just 20 minutes west of Whitehorse, Yukon. Our 100-acre ranch features access to many miles of excellent trails and magnificent scenery. ************************************************* With three decades of experience in mid- and long distance mushing and touring, we are able to give guests a truly authentic mushing experience. It is much more than a business for us, it is our life! *************************************************** We offer tours for both novice and experienced mushers. One of our favourite programs, Rookie Ranch introduces people to mushing, dog care (a top priority for us) and the philosophy of team management. ********************************************* Experienced mushers can tackle tougher trails with larger teams, and travel a section of the Yukon Quest trail from Dawson to Eagle, with someone who has genuine Quest racing experience. Frank Turner, owner/operator, is the only musher to have entered the Yukon Quest every year. He won the race in 1995, in record time, and has twice won the Vets Choice Award for excellent care of his dogs. ********************************************** Other options include the Silver Sled Race, & the South Canol Spring Tour. We also offer one extreme tour, from Eagle Plains to Old Crow. In one of our tours, mushers can cross the arctic circle. ********************************************* We offer one special tour to follow the Yukon Quest, an extraordinary three-week adventure, a behind-the-scenes view of this unique long distance race. We can accommodate participants of all ages and a wide range of abilities. We operate year round. As humane dog care is our top priority, we have a strict "Dogs First!" policy, so our dogs do not pull loaded sleds or vehicles in the summer. ************************************************** However, guests can take our popular Kennel Tour, they can camp or stay in our B&B cabins, and they can participate in pre-season training activities with the dogs, along with other ranch activities. Our guests can reach us by road or river in the summer. ***********************************************
