Yearly Schedule

This is a typical schedule for the entire year. Starting and ending dates of the season depend on the weather. If you are hired, you are expected to show up everyday that you are on the schedule. There is no vacation time or personal days. In addition, we may occasionally ask you to work an extra day during the holidays or if someone gets injured.

  • May through September : We collect resumes, email addresses and phone numbers from prospective mushers.
  • September : We start making appointments for interviews.
  • October : More interviews. Towards the end of the month we will start extending offers of employment.
  • November : We start training dogs and new drivers the second week of November. We will drive carts every morning to exercise the dogs. Some carts will have customers. In the late morning and early afternoon, we build the trail by shoveling, tree thinning and grooming. We may also cut and stack firewood and other numerous chores to prepare for the season. As soon as enough snow accumulates we will switch from driving carts to driving sleds; usually around Thanksgiving.
  • First half of December : We'll keep training new drivers and building trail.
  • Second half of December : We are super busy driving guest sleds.
  • January and February : We are busy driving guest sleds.
  • March : We are super super busy driving guest sleds.
  • April : Even though we are tired, we drive sleds for as many days as we can. Drivers will be let go as the snow melts and demand drops off. When the trail becomes unsafe, we spend a few days cleaning up the trails and the trailhead.
